Here's why a 'safe option' may not be safe
Father: Football ka abcd aata hai? How will you arrange money? Its too dangerous. What if you get cheated? Its NOT SAFE, think about engineering.
Son: okay, but engineer-..
Father: Say no more. *takes admission*
Ok, this is too stereotypical. But to many of us Engineering was a "safe" choice wasn't it? Alright. just focus on whats highlighted above.
Almost all of us were told to choose the safe option. Or be told that something was not safe. I'm talking about your life choices here.
Not in a situation where someone asks you to jump into a snake pit, which is not safe ofcourse.
Anyway, your parents have been your guiding light since the beginning, and why wouldn't you listen to them when they advise you. They have taught good things to you, be grateful. But do know that they're not experts at everything. If you have parents who are, then wonderful.
Status plays a huge role in our culture. Whether its social status, political status, monetary status etc. So your parents probably thought engineering was a noble pursuit (it is) because of the status it brought along and well everybody's doing it. But that wasn't totally a well thought decision.
If you have found your muse, or if you're truly in the process of finding it, there is always a certain amount of risk involved, even when playing a poker hand or playing chess. Life is the hardest thing out there. We apply the rule of safe when it gets hard. Why? Probably because we have that conditioned in our heads by external influence or some experience.
Here's what could happen if you choose the safe option,
1. Safe means, avoiding risk, which makes you afraid, and fear then prevents you to do epic shit.
2. A loss of connection with people that interest you.
3. Things start to seem boring.
4. You go blind to your true capabilities!
5. People just find you as a regular, nothing to excite with. 😉
6. You sometimes become demotivated.
7. You keep switching from being content or happy to dissatisfaction.
So whatever it is that you're trying to do, don't be fearless and say I got this, when you don't have any sort of planning or structure. (sometimes you have to, a good lesson)
Take a calculated risk, which is better than the "safe option" . You will still play with risk. But isn't that adventurous?
Don't you think all the inventions that we have around us were born out of varying elements of risk? But they probably chose the least risk option. When we say safe, we completely eliminate the risk factor, which is not true!
We need to keep telling ourselves that. Try not to listen to people who bring you down with the safe option. Because they probably don't have you figured out. And they probably are in a "safe zone" too. They may be nice people but, you have got to re-think about whom to listen to, and you never learn until you take some good risks yourself.
